What I read 09/06/25-19/06/25

Not quite a weekly occurrence, but here’s what I’ve found interesting.

  1. Another book I just have to read – this one is a new english translation of a Chinese novel written by Jia Pingwa. It looks to be a fantastic way to understand the cultural revolution.
  2. That scene from pride and prejudice never happened!
  3. On why video games are important, and why they are not taken as seriously as they should be.
  4. British surgical robots are really good – but can they scale globally?
  5. Tyler Cowen on Bordeaux. I passed through a few months ago and did not read up too much into the history of the place. Definitely a pleasant city, but not one that is particularly memorable.
  6. Noah Smith on social media. The following charts say it all.
  7. What the hell happened in 2012? The following graphs say a lot.

In brief social media makes us more polarised and less happy.
